I think it’s fair to say that Springfield, IL does bear some resemblance to Springfield in The Simpsons.
We were staying near to the State House building. It’s really very impressive. The whole city seems to mainly exist to commemorate Abraham Lincoln (being the State Capital seems to be a secondary function).
Last night we enjoyed some craft beers and dinner at a local microbrewery pub.
The sound of Springfield is very much the insanely loud horn on the freight trains as the go across the crossing which has no barriers. I thought the fog horns of the ships in Southampton were loud but this is a new level. I don’t think even my Goodaughter’s tuba could rival it.
Still, a pleasant evening in a passable hotel. And lots of history to enjoy tomorrow!
